The Psychology Department at Oberlin College invites applications for a full-time non-continuing faculty positions in the College of Arts and Sciences. Appointment will be for a term of 1 year, beginning Fall 2019, and will carry the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor of Psychology.
The 10 member Psychology Department has a strong tradition of teaching and research excellence. Visiting faculty will be provided with research space and are encouraged to involve students in their work. They are eligible for conference travel support and may apply for supplementary support for teaching and research initiatives. As a ‘gateway STEM’ field, Psychology is committed to exploring pedagogical techniques that will further support a diverse range of students and of learning styles. Faculty collaboration, support and mentoring are available to visiting faculty who are interested in developing their teaching in new directions. This position provides an exceptional opportunity to build one’s teaching credentials and skills at a premier liberal arts college.
The incumbent will teach a total of five courses per year: three sections of Introduction to Psychological Science and two sections of a seminar in clinical psychology within their specialty. Courses within the department typically enroll 35-40 students at the 100 and 200 level and 12 students for seminars. We are particularly interested in applicants who can demonstrate their experience in teaching or working with diverse student populations or whose research and teaching focus on issues of multiculturalism within clinical psychology.
Among the qualifications required for appointment is the Ph.D. degree (in hand or expected by first semester of academic year 2019). Candidates must demonstrate interest and potential excellence in undergraduate teaching. Successful teaching experience at the college level is desirable.
