The Department of Psychology at The University of Texas of the Permian Basin is pleased to announce the opening for a tenure-track, Clinical or Counseling Psychology position at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level beginning August 2019. Presently the Department of Psychology offers the MA in Psychology with clinical and experimental concentrations. The future goal is to collaborate with our colleagues in the Department of Kinesiology and offer a PhD in Experimental Psychology with concentrations in sport, exercise, and performance psychology and social-cognitive psychology. Construction on the state-of-the-art D. Kirk Edwards Family Human Performance Center has begun and will include laboratory and office space for members the psychology department. In addition, a Center for Human Performance, Physiology, and Psychological Science has been established to enhance research and grant productivity. Ultimately, the kinesiology and psychology departments could merge as one.
The ideal candidate for the clinical-counseling position should hold the Ph.D. from an APA approved program and be eligible for licensure in the State of Texas. This position requires teaching undergraduate courses as well as graduate courses in practicum supervision, ethics, and personality and intellectual assessment with a willingness to teach online. Candidates who are able to collaborate with colleagues in an interdisciplinary research center devoted to human performance, physiology, and psychological science are especially encouraged to apply.
In addition to teaching, faculty members are required to develop productive scholarly agendas and provide departmental, college, and university service. The department presently has 6 full-time faculty, with over 400 undergraduate majors, and, as noted above is planning to expand the existing graduate program with the Center and the PhD program.
