Virginia Tech (VT) recently launched a bold and innovative Neuroscience Initiative by establishing a School of Neuroscience. Virginia Tech invites applications for tenure track faculty positions in the School of Neuroscience at the assistant-, associate- or full-professor level. We are seeking candidates that will apply innovative approaches to all aspects of cellular, molecular and computational neuroscience that will complement the expertise of the 15 primary faculty members who have joined the School of Neuroscience since 2015 (http://www.neuroscience.vt.edu). Successful candidates will establish a competitive research program that can attract extramural funding from a wide variety of funding agencies. Competitive salary, space, and start-up packages will be provided and be commensurate with experience.
The School of Neuroscience offers a unique interdisciplinary curriculum spanning multiple colleges throughout the university. Following a "Hands-on, Minds-on" philosophy, Virginia Tech students engage in scholarly research and discovery activities as part of their training. Prospective faculty members must show a sincere interest in teaching undergraduates, be prepared to teach innovative courses and include undergraduates as a component of their research program.
Virginia Tech is quickly becoming a destination university for the nation's best students interested in Neuroscience. With over 6,000 graduate students, Virginia Tech also offers graduate programs in many Neuroscience-related disciplines including the Molecular and Cellular Biology (MCB) and the Translational Biology, Medicine and Health (TBMH) programs. Prospective faculty members can draw from an excellent pool of graduate students to support their research program in these and other programs at the university.
All applicants must have earned a doctorate (Ph.D., M.D., MD/Ph.D., DVM) in a relevant discipline with post-doctoral experience at the time of appointment. Applicants must demonstrate a strong background in neuroscience-related research as evidenced by: (1) peer-reviewed publications and prior funding through individual federal or foundation support; (2) a vision to establish an independent research program with a high likelihood to be competitive for extramural grant support; (3) demonstrated experience with and commitment to interdisciplinary research; (4) vision, creativity, and leadership skills; (5) a willingness to cross disciplinary boundaries; and (6) a true desire to advise and teach a student body that is diverse with respect to socio-economic status, interests, and abilities.

Preference given to candidates with research programs that relate to the immediate programmatic needs of the School and who can quickly establish undergraduate courses that support a rigorous and diverse Neuroscience curriculum. Existing grant support, while not essential, will be considered supportive.
