The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences has a wonderful opportunity for one full-time faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor without Tenure, Associate Professor without tenure, or Professor without tenure commensurate with experience with expertise in cognitive aging and resilience . The anticipated start date for the position is January 1, 2019. This new position will be supported in part by an endowment from the K. Warner Schaie Endowed Professorship in Adult Cognitive Development. This 12-month service period position will have the opportunity to work and laborate with faculty across multiple sites at the University of Washington and Veterans Affairs Puget Sound with programs such as the UW Memory and Brain Wellness Center, UW Alzheimer 's Disease Research Center, VA Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center, the VA Northwest Network Mental Illness Research, Education, and Clinical Center and   Kaiser Permanente Washington Research Institute. We are inviting candidates who have achieved regional or national recognition in the field of adult cognitive development and are expected to make contributions to teaching and research in this field.

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is an integral component of the UW School of Medicine and it shares UW Medicine's Mission to 'Improve the Health of the Public.' Department faculty members provide clinical services and teach at health care facilities in the Puget Sound area and at several rural locations in the WWAMI region (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and aho).  The department also has a robust research portfolio nearly $35 M annually in sponsored projects. Educational programs include a required medical student clerkship for 240 medical students per year at 30 sites across the WWAMI region, a nationally competitive psychiatry residency with more than 70 psychiatry residents in Seattle and in two regional residency tracks in aho and Montana, subspecialty fellowships in addiction, child and adolescent, consultation-liaison, and geriatric psychiatry, a nationally renowned scientist-practitioner psychology internship program, and post-doctoral clinical and research fellowships.

Qualifications

  1. Candidates must have an established and funded research portfolio in one or more of the following areas: a) adult cognitive development b) cognitive aspects of Alzheimer disease or other neurodegenerative disorders, or c) the effects of mental health on the trajectory of cognition.
  2. Expertise in cognitive development research, including the investigation of genetic, biological, psychological, or social/environmental influences on cognitive functioning and resilience and/or the study of behavioral or other interventions for the remediation of cognitive decline or to increase cognitive resilience or performance during the aging process.
  3. Expertise in longitudinal modeling and statistical analysis of cognitive aging.
  4. Expertise in development/philanthropic activities.
  5. Requires an MD, DO, PhD, or PsyD in a relevant field, or foreign equivalent.
