Psychotherapist for adolescent and young adult eating disorder program UCLA


  • Title: Staff Psychotherapist (PhD, PsyD, LCSW)
  • Program: Eating Disorder Program, Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine
  • Department: Psychotherapist will be hired in the Division of Child Psychiatry, Department of Psychiatry & Biobehavioral Sciences, assigned to the Eating Disorder Program, in the Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine, Department of Pediatrics.


Duties: To develop, administer, and provide clinical care for two eating disorder programs, serving patients between the ages of 8 and 26 with known or suspected eating or feeding disorders (described below). Psychotherapist’s time will be divided equally between these two programs, and psychotherapist will also liaise with the Psychiatric Inpatient Eating Disorders Program at UCLA Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital. While primarily a clinical position, opportunities to participate in team-based research are available.

Program Descriptions:

1. Nourish 4 Life Outpatient Clinic:

A multi-disciplinary outpatient team providing the following:

    • Assessment;
    • Treatment and disposition recommendations;
    • Psychotherapy services, including FBT (family-based therapy), AFT (adolescent-focused therapy), CBT-E (specific for eating disorders);
    • Nutrition therapy services;
    • Medical supervision.

2. Medical Stabilization Program (MSP) at UCLA Santa Monica Hospital:

Inpatient program provides medical stabilization, refeeding, and introduction to psychotherapy. During hospitalization patients and families are assessed, educated and therapeutically supported. The average length of stay is 10-14 days.

Specific Job Responsibilities:

A. Nourish 4 Life Outpatient Clinic: 

    • Contribute collaboratively to the vision and realization of the program;
    • Participate in program development;
    • Supervise trainees;
    • Provide direct clinical care.

B. MSP at SMH:

    • Provide initial evaluations, supportive psychological services, family education, and recommendations during treatment and discharge planning rounds;
    • Participate in program development;
    • Represent the programs in relevant committees and subcommittees;
    • Supervise of trainees.


Position is for a psychotherapist (PhD or PsyD) or LCSW with  significant experience in eating and feeding disorders. The duties will be split between inpatient (medical stabilization program) and outpatient.  CBT-E experience is required.  FBT experience is preferred but willingness to learn modality is required.
