Summary: This position is a generalist clinician providing individual, group, and crisis counseling services and campus outreach prevention services. In addition, the administrative responsibility of the coordinator of referral services is to implement and document systems for follow-up with students who have been referred to community resources.
Required Qualifications and Education:
- Doctorate in counseling or clinical psychology, masters in social work or counseling, or comparable degree by start date. For doctorate candidates, APA-accredited program and internship
- License eligible as a psychologist, counselor, or clinical social worker in Michigan (to be licensed within two years of hire)
- Experience and comfort working and collaborating with agencies, departments, hospitals, and other community systems of care
- Commitment to working with diverse student populations in an affirming environment
- Strong clinical, collaborative, and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications and Education:
- Doctorate in counseling or clinical psychology and license eligible as a psychologist in Michigan
- Two years of clinical experience with a university/college population
- Experience in a counseling center providing an APA-accredited psychology internship and other training programs
- Experience providing mental health or preventative programming, outreach, and psychoeducation
- Experience providing service to diverse student populations (e.g., students of color, LGBTQIA students, student veterans, and students with disabilities)
Responsibilities - Essential Functions:
- Provide leadership as the coordinator of referral services, including:
- Schedule phone appointments for students who need additional referral information, meet with students to overcome barriers to accessing community resources, and assist in scheduling appointments with off-campus providers as needed
- Assist and collaborate with staff in treatment and disposition planning for students with complex mental health needs, particularly for those students who are frequent users of urgent-care appointments
- Identify and document the network of campus and community services to meet specific needs related to academic stress, legal issues, mental health services, financial support agencies, food services, etc.
- Update and refine the online referral database (in conjunction with the coordinator of case management), as well as evaluate outcomes of UCC referral services
- Build liaison relationships with off-campus mental health providers, private practitioners, hospitals and inpatient units, and other community partners.
- Provide culturally sensitive individual and group counseling over a broad range of difficulties and diagnoses, including:
- Psychological, social, or other difficulties that interfere with students academic success
- Crisis intervention management, including occasional afterhours on-call coverage for the on-campus population
- Provide consultation and outreach activities to the university community
- Provide training in an APA-accredited internship and potential supervision to doctoral psychology and masters level social work interns
- Participate in Division of Student Services activities pertinent to student well-being, including serving on university committees
- Participate in national/regional professional organizations and activities
- Other duties as assigned by the director
- Work hours are 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m., with one day served at Pew Campus
