Psychologist - Outpatient Pain Center

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Provides individual and group therapies to address cognitive, psychosocial and behavioral problems as needed
  • Establishes short term and long term treatment objectives for each client based on results of the neuropsychological and psychometric testing. Implements the treatment plan and provides the psychological services needed to meet the stated objectives for each client
  • Reviews referring medical information prior to the initial assessment
  • Evaluates patient status, adhering to accepted standards of practice
  • Consults with other treatment members to identify potential psychosocial problems
  • Maintains complete, accurate, and current records of all clinical service rendered; includes initial evaluations, daily progress notes, summary notes, discharge summaries and all other necessary documentation
  • Fosters and maintains effective professional relationships with other treatment members, patients, family members/significant others and the public
  • Functions as a member of the treatment team, participating in meetings and advising staff regarding psycho-social issues
  • Assists with administrative duties such as participation in team meetings
  • Collaborates with the attending physicians in regard to behavioral changes requiring psychotropic medications
  • Provides in-service training for team members as necessary
  • Keeps abreast of current standards of practice


Essential Job Qualifications (Knowledge, Education, and Training Requirements):

  • Doctoral degree in Psychology
  • Full licensure as a Psychologist with the State of Michigan
  • One to two years progressively more responsible related work experience
  • Physical Demands - Able to: exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (up to 1/3 of the time); lift, carry, push, pull, up to 10 pounds occasionally; sit for the majority of the time, but may involve brief periods of time involving walking or standing; use keyboard frequently (1/3 to 2/3 of the time)



Other Preferred Job Qualifications:

  • Coursework in Probability and Statistics
  • Experience in test administration
  • Proficiency with the use of computers and knowledge of operational procedures
