Psychologist-Kennesaw State University

This is a new position that will be primarily housed in a new Counseling and Psychological Services (CPS) location on the Kennesaw campus that is scheduled to open in Fall 2019. The office is located in very close proximity to the residential community and the person in this position will have significant input into developing the culture of the office and the types of services needed by on-campus residents. Some examples of targeted services may include: walk-in hours; individual counseling; group counseling focused on supporting first-generation, transfer, or other specific student groups; workshops for students and/or residence life staff focused on the developmental needs of students transitioning to college; and developing relationships and providing consultation to residence life staff.


DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Able to conduct individual, group, and couples counseling
  • Able to use psychotherapeutic skills with college student population
  • Knowledge and experience with mental health issues in higher education
  • Familiarity with short-term models of treatment
  • Able to provide clinical supervision
  • Able to work with diverse individuals and groups
  • Knowledge of professional, national, and state ethical guidelines
  • Successful collaboration with treatment team and external constituents
  • Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills
  • Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e. Microsoft Office suite)
  • Strong attention to detail and follow up skills
  • Strong customer service skills, phone and e-mail etiquette

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:

  • Doctorate in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA Accredited Program

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Pre-doctoral internship in professional psychology

MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW AND/OR INSTITUTION:

  • License eligible as psychologist within twelve (12) months of hire
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Licensed psychologist with previous experience in university counseling center
Job Purpose:

Delivers a wide range of clinical services including initial consultation, diagnostic and treatment formulation, psychological testing, short-term individual counseling and psychotherapy, psychoeducational and process focused group counseling, clinical supervision, consultation to the campus community, and crisis intervention. Participates in outreach efforts by developing and delivering psychoeducational programming for the campus community.
