Psychiatrist Job Description

We are looking for a patient and understanding psychiatrist with a strong desire to help people and improve patient’s daily lives. As a psychiatrist, you will evaluate, monitor, and diagnose patients to determine treatment and recovery plans. You will counsel patients, write prescriptions, and monitor patients’ progress with a collaborative team while being compassionate and sensitive to the needs of and concerns of the patient. You will also work with patients’ primary physicians and/or mental health counselors to continue recovery during treatment.

Psychiatrist Duties and Responsibilities

· Evaluate patient through conversations, interviews, and observations

· Administer patient tests or request testing and lab work; analyze patient data and results as needed

· Diagnose patients with correct psychological, emotional, or behavioral disorders

· Collaborate with staff to determine treatment of patient.

· Set patient goals and discuss treatment plans

· Analyze the best medications or therapy to help patients reach goals

· Prescribe medications and monitor patient intake

· Document patient records and progress, including symptoms, medications, and treatments

· Counsel patients and listen to their reactions to treatment

· Provide patients with emotional tools and methods for recovery

· Educate patients, patient families, significant others, and relevant parties of patient progress, treatment, and future goals

Psychiatrist Requirements and Qualifications

· Doctor of Medicine (MD)

· Successful completion of United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE)

· Certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology; local state regulations and certifications, Continuing Medical Education (CME), and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations requirements must be met

· Four-year psychiatric residency

· Participation in further medical education and professional organization memberships are preferred

· Proficient computer skills,

· Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills

· Great interpersonal relations, communications, and demeanor
