Provost's Postdoctoral Fellow

The Department of Psychology at the University of Chicago invites applications for a tenure-track position on language emergence, with an emphasis on the properties of human mind and human societies that allow language to be created and learned. We welcome applications from scholars with expertise in sign language studies, conducted in the lab and the field. Candidates whose research demonstrates a strong potential for interdisciplinary interactions within the Department and across the University are particularly encouraged to apply. For information about the faculty, department, and interdisciplinary opportunities, see http://psychology.uchicago.edu. Successful candidates will enhance the department’s overall faculty research profile and its curriculum.

A goal of the search is to increase the diversity of the Department of Psychology and we therefore welcome applicants who come from groups that are historically underrepresented in psychology, such as black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, American Indian, Alaskan Native, and individuals with disabilities, including persons who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Successful candidates will be appointed as a tenure-track faculty member, at the rank of Instructor for up to two years and designated as a Provost’s Postdoctoral Fellow. During this time, Fellows will teach one class/year, receive research support, join a cohort of Fellows, and participate in programming designed to help support them in their progress to Assistant Professor. Fellows will ordinarily be promoted to Assistant Professor at the end of their term consistent with established procedures.

This position will start on or after January 1, 2020. Candidates must have the Ph.D. in hand by the start of the appointment. Applications must be submitted through the University of Chicago's Interfolio website: apply.interfolio.com/63452.

Applications must include: (1) a cover letter; (2) a curriculum vitae; (3) a statement that addresses current research, future plans for research, and planned contributions to the intellectual life at the University; (4) a statement on teaching experience and philosophy; (5) two or three samples of scholarly writing; (6) as well as the names and contact information of three references. Letters of reference will be solicited by the Department after the search committee has reviewed the initial applications.
