PLEASE NOTE: We have MULTIPLE LOCATIONS in Indiana (Currently in the cities of Indianapolis, Bremen, Mishawaka, and Crown Point/Merrillville)
AIMS, is currently seeking talented Postdoctoral Fellows in Psychology for our Indiana based Psychiatric Inpatient hospitals (contracted with Neuropsychiatric Hospitals). Psychology Departments are located in Bremen, Mishawaka, Indianapolis, and Crown Point/Merrillville, Indiana. Expansion is planned.
Our hospitals offer the unique opportunity to work with an atypical psychiatric population, with 60-70% of our patients being Geriatrics with Major Neurocognitive Disorders due to all types of dementia and other delirium etiologies. The remaining 30-40% of our patients include adults with more typical psychotic and mood disorders, as well as a limited number of younger adult patients suffering from traumatic brain injury, autism, intellectual disability or other neurodevelopmental disorders.
You will be part of a true interdisciplinary team that includes Psychiatry, Internal Medicine and Neurology. Together, you will contribute to the team’s understanding and treatment of co-morbid psychological and medical challenges, particularly those with Major Neurocognitive Disorders.
You will be using a focused therapy/assessment model to offer the highest quality, individualized care for each person. Under an HSPP’s supervision and direction, you will be responsible for assisting with psychological and neuropsychological assessments that directly inform the treatment of your patients. A typical day in the hospital is eight hours of individual therapy sessions, group therapy sessions, and assisting with initial psychological evaluations, as well as testing at admission, periodically throughout hospitalization, and in preparation for discharge. There is also some involvement in interdisciplinary team staffings and participation in family conferences.
Work schedule is five days per week with no weekends and no on-call time. Successful members of our team respect our geriatric population and wish to join us in giving them the best quality care in the twilight of their life. They are also individuals who enjoy and thrive in a semi-independent work environment within the faster pace of an acute care hospital setting. Persons who thrive here are flexible and are willing to accept the challenges of our atypical population not found in any other setting. Psychology Postdoctoral Fellows with geriatric, Health Psychology and/or Neuropsychology training or experience, or those who are familiar with hospital settings are encouraged to apply. Neuropsychological testing for clarity of diagnosis and proper treatment planning is also a valuable skill. Such experience is not required, only a desire to expand your knowledge base into the growing area of geriatric psychological and neuropsychiatric care.
