Department Description 

UCSF Medical Center and UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital in San Francisco collaborate with ValleyCare Health System in Pleasanton to provide specialty health care services for women and children in the East Bay and Tri-Valley.

Job Summary 

Under the supervision of the Medical Directors and the Mission Bay Pediatric Medical Specialties Practice Manager, the Pediatric Psychologist will provide inpatient and outpatient mental health servcies in the Kidney, Liver and Heart Transplant programs as well as the Cystic Fibrosis and Sleep Disorders programs.


Specific clinical services will include pre-transplant evaluations, diagnostic assessments with a focus on challenges for disease management and medication adherence as well as psycho-education and follow-up management of patients and their families.


Other responsibilities will include clinical consultation with program staff members, attendance at multi-disciplinary care meetings and managing/facilitating co-management with community mental health providers.



Required Qualifications 

  •  One year of post-doctoral experience in clinical psychology; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Internship in Clinical Psychology including a successful completion of an APA-accredited internship or equivalent experience
  • Board of Psychology License in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association CPR certification
  • PhD or PsyD from an accredited institution in clinical psychology
  • Experience in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) that includes diagnosis, crisis intervention, individual/group psychotherapy and consultation and collaboration with medical personnel
  • Basic skills in providing behavioral/educational interventions
  • Knowledge of applicable laws and ethical standards associated with profession
  • Basic knowledge of diagnostic and therapeutic approaches
  • Effective verbal and written communication; demonstrated active listening and persuasion skills
  • Skills in collaborating with interdisciplinary team
  • Experience with chronically ill children and their families, including but not limited to pre-doctoral, post-doctoral, and professional experience
  • Knowledge of learning theory, behavioral medicine and chronic pain
  • The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations

 


Preferred Qualifications 

  • Minimum one year of post-doctoral professional experience in pediatric clinical psychology
  • Experience working with a pediatric transplant patient population
  • Knowledge of business software and electronic/medical records systems
  • Eligibility for board certification in clinical psychology

 


Licensure/Certification 

  • Board of Psychology License in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association CPR certification


UCSF Medical Center requires all Advanced Health Professionals (AHP) to be credentialed through its Office of Medical Affairs and Governance in order to practice and function in their clinical role. This applies to both adult and pediatric AHPs in the inpatient and outpatient clinical settings at all UCSF Medical Center sites (Parnassus, Mt. Zion, Satellite Clinics, et al). Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 30-60 days and must be completed prior to the first working day.

Work Environment

  • Keeps working areas neat, orderly and clutter-free, including the hallways. Adheres to cleaning processes and puts things back where they belong. Removes and reports broken equipment and furniture
  • Picks up and disposes of any litter found throughout entire facility.
  • Posts flyers and posters in designated areas only; does not post on walls, doors or windows
  • Knows where the Environment of Care Manual is kept in department; corrects or reports unsafe conditions to the appropriate departments
  • Protects the physical environment and equipment from damage and theft.


The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations is required.
