Penn State Hershey Medical Center is seeking an experienced doctoral level child neuropsychologist/school psychologist for a full time outpatient opportunity.  The selected candidate will reside within the Department of Psychiatry and will be expected to be part of its APA-approved, Psychology Internship Training Program.  Although the position is predominantly a clinical position, opportunities exist for scholarly productivity. A sizable portion of the time will be dedicated to working within Pediatric Oncology. Candidates who have experience working with multidisciplinary teams in a medical setting are highly desired.  Competency in skills for ages 1-18 is expected.

Responsibilities may include:

Assess and evaluate a wide range of pediatric oncology patients pre- and post-treatment to assess their neuropsychological functioning and educational, behavioral, and mental health needs; to provide counseling and referral resources to families to meet these needs; to generate specific psycho-educational recommendations for intervention in school; to assist patients and their families in developing a transition plan for a successful return to school. These services will be provided as part of a pediatric oncology team.

Assess and evaluate concussion patients to determine readiness for return to school/normal activities.

Evaluate children in the child psychiatry, neurology, and child development clinics to provide a diagnostic assessment (e.g., of possible ADHD, autism, anxiety disorder, or learning disability); to evaluate intellectual, neuropsychological, and academic abilities; to help plan school interventions and IEP support needs; and to provide recommendations for other treatments to maximize psychological and long-term function.

The ideal candidate will meet the following requirements:

  • PhD or PsyD from an APA-accredited program
  • Licensure or license-eligibility in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is required within one year of accepting position
  • Temporary supervision will be provided for one year if necessary by the Psychiatry Department’s Director of Neuropsychology

  • Specialty postdoctoral training in clinical neuropsychology capable of meeting board certification under ABPN or ABPP with experience in oncology and cancer-related diseases is preferred but not required

  • Training and experience assessing the psychoeducational needs of children is required
