Pain or Rehabilitation Psychologist Opportunity with Gundersen Health La Crosse WI

The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Gundersen Health System’s Division of Neurosciences is pleased to announce a position for a qualified pain or rehabilitation psychologist. The position will be situated within the expanding Neuropsychology Section, currently comprised of five neuropsychologists/rehabilitation psychologists at a regional medical center serving western Wisconsin, southeastern Minnesota, and northeastern Iowa. The Neuropsychology Section providers are valued members of the Neuroscience Center consisting of an interdisciplinary team of specialist providers in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Pain Medicine, Neurosurgery, Neurology, and Speech Pathology.


The position will serve primarily in the capacity of a pain psychology consultation and liaison service with intervention as needed for adults who experience chronic and persistent pain secondary to a broad range of medical conditions including CRPS, central pain symptoms, small fiber neuropathy, stiff-person syndrome, SCE, chronic back pain, cervical dystonia, migraine and chronic muscle tension headaches, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, rheumatoid/psoriatic/osteoarthritis and others. Approximately 25% of the practice will be dedicated to the completion of spinal cord stimulator and lumbar fusion pre-surgical psychological evaluations, including assessment of the patient's psychiatric stability, readiness for the procedure and ability to acquire and retain information necessary to ensure post-operative treatment compliance. This is a clinical position with primary emphasis and priority on delivering quality and efficient patient care and supervision of mid-level staff and interns.


Candidates with special training and/or interest in pain management will be given special consideration. Competitive applicants will possess a PhD/PsyD from an APA-accredited doctoral program and will have internship (APA-accredited preferred) and post-doctoral training in neuropsychology or pain psychology. Familiarity with a broad range of relaxation techniques, leading cognitive and behavioral pain treatment approaches, biofeedback training and multidisciplinary treatment of chronic and persistent pain is highly valued. Applicants should possess well-developed consultation skills, be effective communicators, and have the ability to work seamlessly and provide efficient care with multiple interdisciplinary teams within a busy regional medical center environment. Licensure/eligibility for licensure in Wisconsin is required.
