The Department of Psychology at Florida International University (FIU) is searching for an open-rank tenure track position in Cognitive Neuroscience. Candidates in all areas of Cognitive Neuroscience will be considered, including human or animal (avian or rodent) neuroscience. Expertise using cutting-edge methodologies for research in Cognitive Neuroscience is expected (e.g., magnetic resonance imaging, near-infrared spectroscopy, electroencephalography, transcranial magnetic stimulation, confocal microscopy, optogenetics, Ca2+ imaging). The ideal candidate would complement the existing faculty in Cognitive Neuroscience, Clinical Science, or Developmental Science doctoral programs. Candidates must have a strong record of publications and active extramural grant funding.

Currently, Psychology faculty hold over $70 million in grants from federal agencies (e.g., NIMH, NICHD, NIDA, NIDDK, NIAAA, IES, NSF, DoJ), ranking 9th nationally on research and development expenditures according to the NSF Higher Education Research and Development Survey. Collaborative research is emphasized and many faculty share investigator status on grants. The department is closely affiliated with the Center for Children and Families (CCF) and the Center for Imaging Science (CIS). The CCF is an interdisciplinary Center and FIU Preeminent Program that focuses on research, education, and service in the area of child and adolescent mental health, with strong connections to the community and the Miami-Dade County Public Schools, the fourth largest District in the nation. In addition, the CCF has as an active, large on-campus mental health clinic for children and adolescents with a well-established staff supportive of evidence-based practice and clinical research and serving more than 3000 families annually in school-year and summer settings. The CCF houses a shared 128-channel EGI EEG system. The CIS includes a research-dedicated magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) facility that supports a 3T Siemens MAGNETOM Prisma and is equipped to run the Human Connectome Protocol. The department also has access to state-of-the-art animal care facilities for rodent, avian, and large animal research, as well as wet-lab and optical imaging equipment supporting researchers in behavioral neuroscience.

The department is strongly committed to a climate that embraces diversity, and is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity of the academic community through research, teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, mentorship of graduate students and postdocs, and service. The department has 40 tenure-track faculty, 22 instructors and research/clinical faculty, more than 150 graduate students spread across five doctoral specialty programs and master’s programs in professional counseling psychology and organizational science, 9 full-time undergraduate advisors, and over 4,000 undergraduate majors. The department is young and vibrant, with over 30 new hires in the past 5 years.
