South Dakota State University Psychology Department is offering an exciting career opportunity as an Instructor. We are looking for a creative and innovative professional to join us in August 2019. This is a renewable 9-month, full-time, benefit eligible position, with the possibility of summer teaching. This position is supervised by Dr. Rebecca Martin, Interim Department Head of Psychology. We are seeking an outstanding teacher with established scholarly or professional activity that will complement our dedicated and collaborative faculty. Continuing appointment will be based on performance and funding.
SDSU is especially interested in candidates that can contribute to and/or coordinate course offerings that address the experiences of underrepresented minorities in organizations. Primary responsibilities include teaching four undergraduate courses per semester that will include various combinations of: General Psychology, The Field of Psychology (1 credit course), Psychology of Aging, Psychological Therapies, Biopsychology, Personality Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, and/or Cross-Cultural Psychology. The successful applicant will be expected to teach with a variety of effective pedagogical and technological teaching methods. Limited departmental service is also expected.
The department also offers a major in Psychology at the University Center in Sioux Falls, SD. Therefore, the applicant must be able to commute the 50 miles between the two campuses to teach one course at UCSF at least once per academic year. Courses at UCSF meet once a week.
- Master’s Degree or PhD, PsyD in Psychology or a closely related field completed by first day of employment
- Experience and interest in teaching undergraduate students
- Effective verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills
- Effective written communication skills
- Valid driver’s license, or ability to obtain one by first day of employment
- Prior teaching experience with online courses
- Ability to teach the following courses: General Psychology, Psychology of Aging, Psychological Therapies, Biopsychology, Personality Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, and/or Cross-Cultural Psychology
