The Veterans Affairs San Diego Healthcare System (VASDHS) and UC San Diego (UCSD) Department of Psychiatry (http://psychiatry.ucsd.edu) are recruiting for a PSYCHIATRIST or PSYCHOLOGIST as the Director of the VA Center of Excellence for Stress and Mental Health (CESAMH). CESAMH is one of 3 Centers of Excellence funded by Veterans Health Administration (VHA) to support the research, teaching, and clinical missions of the VHA. The mission of CESAMH is to optimize the well-being and functioning of Veterans. As such, CESAMH conducts integrated neurobiological and psychosocial science to develop, evaluate and disseminate treatment for trauma-related conditions. CESAMH consists of an interdisciplinary team of researchers, educators and clinicians whose goal is to understand and improve VHA’s care for those affected by posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI). The primary purpose of this position is to provide leadership, budgetary oversight, and programmatic management to CESAMH and to effectively manage the work of this complex organizational unit. The Director conducts scientific research and is a recognized expert with a national and international reputation in areas relevant to the mission of CESAMH, which includes a significant track record of grant funding, publications, and related professional activities. The Director must be highly proficient in relating to superiors, peers, and subordinates to negotiate and implement program policies and find solutions to personnel and organizational challenges. Experience in leading interdisciplinary staff including psychiatry, psychology, social work, and others working in mental health settings is preferred. Academic rank will be dependent upon qualifications.
