Initiative Information Description:
Indiana University has recently invested $50 million over five years to serve as seed funding to help address the addictions crisis in Indiana (https://grandchallenges.iu.edu/). To begin tackling this epidemic, IU has established partnerships that span all sectors – state government, healthcare, community organizations, industry, and nonprofits. The complexity of the addictions crisis requires a multi-faceted solution, deploying evidence-based practices, educating and training those on the front lines, and understanding and implementing recovery and prevention programs throughout the state. The goals of the initiative are 1) to reduce the incidence of substance use disorders; 2) decrease opioid deaths; and 3) decrease the number of babies born with neonatal abstinence syndrome.


Position Description

The IU Office of the Vice President for Research seeks a Director of Operations of the Responding to the Addictions Crisis initiative, https://grandchallenges.iu.edu/, to oversee and direct the daily operations; coordinate and provide oversight of all Responding to the Addictions Crisis research programs; participate in setting and implementing short- and long-term goals and strategies; provide budgetary oversight; and represent the Addictions Crisis initiative within the university and with its partners throughout the state. The Director is responsible for:


Strategy:

  • Work with leadership to set long- and short-term strategy.

  • Liaise, communicate and collaborate with, and across, leadership teams to achieve strategic goals and objectives.

  • Serve as a strategic thought partner to the Addictions Crisis leadership teams and provide innovative thinking that demonstrates a commitment to scientific excellence and detailed knowledge of programs.  

Program Management and Operations:

  • Oversee the execution, implementation and operation of all programs to assure successful planning, program development, quality assurance, and metrics-tracking, and to optimize research volume and outcomes
  • Develop policies, procedures and practices to manage and oversee a multi-faceted program located throughout the state.
  • Prepare, assemble and analyze relevant data and analytical reports, providing the Addictions Crisis leadership teams and VPR with relevant data for evaluation and decision-making.
  • Build and maintain mutually supportive relationships with all levels of management, faculty, staff, and external constituents including institutional partners, healthcare affiliates, community sponsors, and private funders and donors to realize goals. 

 Research, Budgeting
