Director of Counseling and Psychological Services

Director of Counseling and Psychological Services The Division of Student Affairs at Eastern Connecticut State University is seeking a Director of Counseling and Psychological Services to join our college community. The candidate will deliver high quality service to our students. This is a full-time 12-month position. Under the direction of the Vice President for Student Affairs, the director will be the hands-on leader of three key units: Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), AccessAbility Services, and Wellness Education and Promotion. Responsibilities and Duties: Duties include but are not limited to: Conducting intake evaluations, providing counseling/therapy (individual and or group) and referrals to outside professionals; administering and evaluating psychological tests; supervising graduate interns who provide developmental, therapeutic, psycho-educational, and outreach/preventative counseling services to students; providing leadership to CAPS staff in the development of programming designed to meet student needs; and managing the operations of the center. The Director will ensure the office is compliant with federal mandates for providing reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities consistent with the OCR, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act and related amendments. Wellness Education and Promotion involves substance abuse counseling and drug screening and assisting Athletics in maintaining compliance with NCAA requirements for athletes. The Director will supervise and/or provide developmental, educational outreach and preventative programs and services (e.g. suicide prevention, mental health) to the University. The director will also collaborate with Student Affairs units, providing for needs of special student groups (students with disabilities, minority, nontraditional and academically underprepared). Required Qualifications: A doctorate in Clinical or Counseling Psychology or related field; Connecticut Licensure or eligibility for Connecticut Licensure and at least five years of experience in counseling including demonstrated administrative and supervisory ability in a counseling or counseling related setting. Extensive experience in a diverse college/university environment strongly preferred. Direct experience providing clinical supervision to diverse staff (including interns and practicum students), as well as individual and group counseling. Demonstrated experience and ability to supervise, direct, plan, manage and administer a collegiate counseling unit. Familiarity with current issues in college mental health. Knowledge of ADA laws and NCAA compliance requirements. Demonstrated strengths in interpersonal, written and oral communication skills is essential as are organizational ability, initiative and flexibility.
