Core Faculty Position - PsyD Program for the 2019-2020 Academic Year



The Michigan School of Psychology (MSP) seeks talented applicants with a commitment to excellent teaching for a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position with potential for a multiple year contract after the first year of successful employment. Full-time faculty responsibilities include teaching doctoral level courses, advising and supervision of doctoral students, facilitation of student research, chairing dissertations, as well as membership on faculty and institutional committees. This is a full-time position, with competitive salary and benefits. The selected individual will join faculty in MSP’s APA-accredited Clinical Psychology PsyD program.

 

 

MSP faculty:

  • Possess knowledge of the discipline and command of subject matter
  • Possess knowledge of best practices in teaching methods
  • Possess skills that promote the development of students’ critical thinking
  • Demonstrate clinical knowledge, experience and expertise relevant to the courses taught
  • Are actively involved in discipline-related scholarship

  

This is a 12-month appointment, consisting of three semesters, with the potential for a multiple year contract after the first year of successful employment. The workload typically consists of:

  • 5-6 classes over the course of three semesters, not to exceed 16 credit hours per academic year (e.g., 2:2:1 teaching load per semester across 3 semesters)
  • 4-5 supervisees per year
  • Individual faculty may be assigned different combinations of credit hours and supervisees
  • Workload may include student advising, dissertation committee work, ongoing accreditation activities/compliance, participation in institutional initiatives, taskforce assignments and committees

 


The ideal candidate will have values and a vision consistent with the mission of MSP, a commitment to the practitioner-scholar model of teaching, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a record of achievement in the field of health services psychology, research and clinical practice.

 

Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree in Psychology (PhD/PsyD) from an APA accredited program
  • Fully licensed, or eligible for licensure, in the State of Michigan (preferred)
  • 3-5 years teaching experience and expertise in foundational areas of clinical psychology; graduate level teaching experience required.  Recent graduates who show potential for excellence may be considered
  • A demonstrated ability to mentor students and supervise student research
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with students, faculty and professional staff

MSP Campus: 

The Michigan School of Psychology is located in Farmington Hills, Michigan, a suburb in Metro Detroit. Housed on a wooded, four-acre campus, MSP was created specifically to generate a learning climate that reflects the school’s mission and its emphasis on growth and potential. The carefully designed facilities offer open and welcoming surroundings that foster collaborative education. The MSP campus is currently expanding with the opening of our mental health clinic in 2019. The MSP clinic will offer low-cost testing and other mental health services for the Greater Metro Detroit Community. The MSP mental health clinic will also be utilized for the education and training of MSP masters and doctoral students, as well as offer opportunities for advancing clinical research, institutional collaborations, and community partnerships.
