Community Psychologists

The Office of the Associate Dean for Community Behavioral Health & Innovation in collaboration with the Department of Psychiatry and Department of Behavioral Sciences at Rush University Medical Center is creating a new program in Community Behavioral Health that will address the needs of communities on the westside of Chicago. This new program will partner with community organizations to provide training to lay people in the westside communities using evidence-based practices focused on trauma, affective disorders and substance misuse, and then support these community partners via a cutting-edge telehealth program. These positions will have substantial effort devoted to training and research. At present, we are recruiting for two positions to launch this program:

Senior Community Psychologist (Associate Professor or Professor): this individual will serve as the day-to-day lead for the program. S/he will provide clinical and administrative leadership. Experience with federal grant applications is required. Experience with evidence-based interventions for PTSD, depression and/or substance misuse is required. Formal certification in particular modalities is preferred.

Junior Community Psychologist (Assistant Professor): in tandem, with the senior psychologist, this individual will be expected to implement the planned interventions for the emerging community behavioral health program. A doctoral degree in psychology is required. Prior experience in training or teaching is preferred. Applicants with experience and interest in pursuing a clinician-researcher pathway will be provided with support to apply for appropriate grants (T-, F- or K-) depending on stage of training. These are full-time faculty positions; rank and salary will be commensurate with experience. Applicants must be eligible and achieve licensure in the State of Illinois as a psychologist prior to initiation of employment. Applicants will be jointly appointed to the Center for Underserved Populations & Innovative Intervention which is a component program of the joint Rush-University of Chicago Institute of Translational Medicine. This collaborative program is funded by an NIH Clinical and Translational Sciences Award (UL1-TR002389). In addition, Rush has partnered with community organizations through Westside United which brings together health care institutions, residents, educators, non-profits, businesses, government agencies and faith-based institutions to address the unique needs of the westside communities.

Rush University Medical Center is consistently ranked as one of the nation’s top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. Rush is ranked in 7 of 16 categories in U.S. News & World Report's 2018-2019 "America's Best Hospitals" issue, and is one of the two top-ranked hospitals in Illinois overall. Rush was one of four hospitals in the country that the American Hospital Association honored for equity of care in June of 2018. Rush was the first hospital in Illinois serving adults and children to receive Magnet status – the highest honor in nursing – and the first in Illinois to earn a fourth four-year designation. Rush has been ranked among the country's top 100 hospitals — and 15 major teaching hospitals — four times by Truven Health Analytics, a leading provider of health care data and analytics. Rush is located short distances from transportation centers, sports facilities, and residential/shopping neighborhoods.
