Clinical Psychology - Assistant Professor

The Department of Psychology at Old Dominion University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology to begin in August 2019.

Applicants must hold a doctoral degree from an APA-accredited clinical psychology program or provide evidence that the PhD will be completed prior to August 2019.  Candidates must demonstrate strong potential for developing an independent and outstanding program of research and strong accomplishments in teaching. Candidates whose research program shows strong potential for obtaining external funding will be preferred.  Candidates with an outstanding record of success may be considered for the Associate Professor level. 

Responsibilities for all tenure-track positions include: (a) teaching undergraduate courses to support the core undergraduate curriculum, including relevant online courses, (b) teaching graduate courses, (c) conducting high quality, programmatic research, (d) seeking research funding, and (e) mentoring M.S. and Ph.D. students.

We have a particular interest in applicants who study topics related to: diversity issues, multi- or cross-cultural psychology, health disparities, or underrepresented/understudied populations.  Preference will be given to candidates with a research program that complements and expands current Clinical faculty research. 

Preference will be given to applicants with an interest in, and/or a record of teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of Research and Quantitative Methods, Health Psychology, Social Psychology, and/or Developmental Psychology. 

The successful candidate is also expected to serve as a core faculty member to support the Virginia Consortium Program in Clinical Psychology, an APA-accredited clinical Ph.D. program offered jointly by ODU, Norfolk State University, and Eastern Virginia Medical School. ABOUT OLD DOMINION UNIVERSITY

ODU’s Department of Psychology is in the College of Sciences and includes 31 full-time faculty members, approximately 1200 undergraduate majors, and 75 students in our graduate programs. In addition to participation in the Virginia Consortium Program in Clinical Psychology, the department offers a terminal Master’s degree in Experimental Psychology and Ph.D. degrees in Applied Psychological Sciences, Human Factors, and Industrial/Organizational Psychology.  The clinical Ph.D. program received 7-year accreditation from the American Psychological Association in 2013.  Faculty research is currently funded by NIAAA, NSF, ARI, NASA and various other entities. Areas of research collaboration among faculty in the Psychology Department include health, diversity, and technology.  

Old Dominion University is located in the Hampton Roads area on the Chesapeake Bay in southeastern Virginia.  The area is a regional center for military, medical, and scholarly research. Old Dominion University is also home to the Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center, which focuses on the use of modeling and simulation technologies for research, education, and economic development.
