CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST OPPORTUNITY
A Little About Us:
Western State Hospital (WSH) is a 246 bed, accredited, public psychiatric hospital located in Staunton, Virginia. Our new state-of-the-art facility opened in November 2013. WSH is one of nine inpatient behavioral health hospitals operated by the Commonwealth of Virginia's Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, and is well integrated with Virginia's community based outpatient services. We provide a wide array of client-centered, recovery-focused services to adults with severe mental health issues throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.
We are hiring for clinical psychologists in anticipation of opening a new wing of 56 beds in 2021. Successful candidates will join a staff of 17 experienced and highly skilled licensed clinical psychologists. Staunton is a vibrant town in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley within easy commuting distance of major university towns. About the Position:
Western State Hospital is seeking a full time Clinical Psychologist to provide a full range of psychological services to adults with serious mental disorders in an inpatient setting. The role of the clinical psychologist is to provide high quality psychological assessments, diagnostic interviewing, behavioral interventions, group and individual psychotherapy, forensic evaluations (e.g., risk assessments, trial competency, sanity) and Court testimony (as needed), supervision of paraprofessional staff, consultation, oversight of behavioral programs, and staff training. Western State Hospital enjoys relationships with many academic institutions in the area and is a training site for many disciplines. As such, opportunities exist to supervise clinical psychology graduate students, undergraduate psychology students, and other trainees. The clinical psychologist serves as an integral member of a multidisciplinary treatment team in a fast paced treatment environment designed to help individuals in their recovery. There are plentiful opportunities for continuing education in areas relevant to the delivery of psychological services in this setting. The successful candidate for this position may be asked to assist in a wide array of treatment settings throughout the facility prior to an anticipated expansion of the hospital, which is projected to be completed in 2021.
Minimum Qualifications, Salary, and Benefits:
Successful applicants must have a Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from a doctoral program accredited by the American Psychological Association by the first day of employment. Must be licensed (or license eligible) to practice clinical psychology in Virginia. Must have demonstrated experience in applying psychological assessments and intervention methods to individuals with serious mental disorders. Applicants must have knowledge of serious mental disorders, psychological assessment, and therapeutic interventions. Must have completed (or eligible to complete) the forensic evaluation training program for Virginia. Applicants must have excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to function effectively as an integral member of a multidisciplinary treatment team. Salary is negotiable and the Commonwealth of Virginia has an excellent benefits package. The anticipated start date is negotiable.
