Clinical Psychologist Opportunity

Southwestern Virginia Mental Health Institute (SWVMHI), part of the Commonwealth of Virginia’s behavioral health system, is seeking qualified candidates for clinical psychologist positions (Psychologist Senior). SWVMHI is a progressive inpatient facility working with community partners to promote mental health recovery in the southwestern Virginia region.

The successful candidate will have strong clinical skills and be capable of working collaboratively with other clinical disciplines in a person-centered treatment environment. The current position opening is on our Geriatric Service working with both acute and longer term care individuals over age 65. Psychologists perform an important role on an interdisciplinary team in clinical assessment, planning and providing treatment services, risk assessment and risk management, and clinical problem-solving. The positon will provide opportunities for learning and applying skills in forensic psychological assessment and treatment as the facility serves as a resource for the courts in our region for both outpatient evaluations and inpatient services.

A doctorate in clinical psychology or documented equivalent and eligibility for licensure as a Clinical Psychologist in Virginia is strongly preferred. Supervision for the year of post-doctorate residency required for Virginia licensure can be provided. Experience with treatment of serious mental disorders is strongly desired. Entry level professionals with a commitment to assisting individuals in their recovery are encouraged to apply.
