Southwestern Virginia Mental Health Institute (SWVMHI), part of the Commonwealth of Virginia’s behavioral health system, is seeking qualified candidates for clinical psychologist positions. SWVMHI is a progressive inpatient facility working with community partners to promote mental health recovery in the southwestern Virginia region. SWVMHI provides acute psychiatric and extended psychosocial rehabilitation for young through senior age adults. Due to recent retirements we currently have two openings, one on our extended rehabilitation services and one on geriatric services.
A doctorate in clinical psychology or documented equivalent and eligibility for licensure as a Clinical Psychologist in Virginia is strongly preferred. Supervision for the year of post-doctorate residency required for Virginia licensure can be provided. Experience with treatment of serious mental disorders is strongly desired. Entry level professionals with a commitment to assisting individuals in their recovery are encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will have strong clinical skills and be capable of working collaboratively with other clinical disciplines in a person centered treatment environment. Psychologists are valued members of an interdisciplinary treatment team and perform an important role in clinical assessment, planning and providing treatment services, risk assessment and risk management, and clinical problem-solving. The positon will provide opportunities for learning and applying skills in forensic psychological assessment and treatment as the facility serves as a resource for the courts in our region for both outpatient evaluations and inpatient services.
