Essential Functions

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direct supervision of the GME Director of Wellness, has responsibility for providing psychotherapy services for residents and clinical fellows enrolled in GME training programs at Washington University SOM or BJC in accord with professional and administrative standards. Position provides psychiatric services including interviews, evaluations, and assessments and prepares documentation of results for residents/clinical fellows enrolled in service. Provides a variety of casework and group work services to residents/clinical fellows when personal, social or environmental difficulties exist which predispose to illness or interfere with obtaining maximum benefits from medical or psychiatric care.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assessing the resident’s or clinical fellow’s needs, abilities or behavior using a variety of methods, including interviews and direct observation of behavior. Offering therapy and treatments for difficulties relating to mental health problems such as anxiety, depression, addiction, social and interpersonal problems and challenging behavior. Providing consultation to other professionals, encouraging a psychological approach in their work.

  2. Schedule appointments for direct clinical contact with physicians-in-training for intake assessment, individual psychotherapy, consultation, triage and referral when necessary. Contact time will include up to 30 clients per week, depending on need. When not conducting direct clinical contact, be available for any service needs. May require availability in early morning or evenings depending on client schedule.

  3. Performs psychiatric interviews, evaluations and assessments and prepares documentation of results.

  4. Coordinate group meetings with physicians to address emotional well-being, stress, trauma and other related topics. As well as deliver educational sessions to groups on various topics.

  5. Prepares written reports, progress notes.

  6. Schedule patient appointments and provides timely telephone follow-up. Adjustng schedule for emergency sessions for patients when needed.

  7. Participates in treatment team meetings.

  8. Carry pager for accessibility during ongoing patient care.

  9. Assists with the development of program material.

  10. Follow all office policy/procedure.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. In Psychology and current state licensure required.

  • 5 years of experience in medical setting preferred.

  • Enhance knowledge and skill to keep up-to-date.

  • Participates in quality improvement activities, to ensure appropriate clinical outcome.

  • Ability to work independently seeking out resources and work collaboratively.

  • Good written and oral communication skills including grammar, punctuation and style.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

  • Ability to communicate clearly with patients, families, healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leadership and others.

  • Ability to use sensory and cognitive functions to process and prioritize information, treatment, and follow-up.

  • Able to record activities, document assessments, plan of care, interventions, evaluation and re-evaluation of patient status.

  • Good written and oral communication skills including grammar, punctuation and style.

  • Able to use computer and learn new software programs with ability to navigate the entity to provide clinical care for patients.

  • Able to remain focused and organized.

  • Ability to use fine motor skills.

Salary Range

The hiring range for this position is $62,067 - $79,144 annually.
