Clinical Psychologist and Staff Psychotherapist

Psychiatric and Psychological Specialties is looking to add clinical psychologists to our thriving practice in St. Joseph, Michigan. Candidates will have extensive experience working with children, adolescents, and families to promote positive emotional, social, behavioral, and educational development. Very interested in LMFT, family, couples and child specialists. Ideal candidates will have the knowledge, skills, attitudes, experience and education to provide exceptional mental health care.

Job: Full-time Clinical Psychologist and Staff Psychotherapist


Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Consistently achieves a good rapport with patients.

  • Effectively evaluates, manages and documents patient risk by assessing immediate concerns such as suicidality, homicidality, and any other safety issues. Collaborates with patients in crisis to make appropriate short-term safety plans, and intensifies treatment as needed. Discusses all applicable confidentiality issues openly with patients.

  • Efficient and effective time management. Keeps scheduled appointments and meetings on time. Keeps supervisors aware of whereabouts as needed. Minimizes unplanned leave, whenever possible.

  • Sensitive to the cultural and individual diversity of patients and is committed to providing culturally sensitive services.

  • Performs an assessment of the patient referred for consultation, incorporating mental status exam, structured interview techniques or risk assessment, as needed, to address the referral.

  • Gives the appropriate level of guidance when providing consultation to other health care professionals, taking into account their level of knowledge about psychological theories, methods and principles.

  • Provides weekly supervision for 1-2 trainees.

  • Provides weekly psychotherapy to 20-25 patients with timely (<24h) completion of documentation (two evenings per week are required).

  • May complete comprehensive psychological evaluations (1-2 per month) including testing, scoring, record review, report writing, clinical interview, and providing feedback to pt and referring provider.

  • May lead a weekly skills class.

  • May participate actively in community-based outpatient psychology consultation with PACE of SW Michigan - Primary responsibilities will include consultation, assessment, and individual brief psychotherapy to a mix of conditions in a geriatric population (one day per week). 


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Clinical psychologists, clinical social workers, clinical counselors or marriage & family therapists.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and effectively communicate with professional and administrative staff within the group and the larger organization.
  • Demonstrable skills in time management, organization, attentional to detail, and an ability to work independently.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, professional demeanor and attitude.
  • Active Michigan license to practice psychology or eligible to acquire licensure in Michigan.
  • Ph.D. or Psy.D., from an APA or CPA approved graduate program.


Ideal Specialties:

  • Generalists – Clinicians who are flexible and willing to see patients with a variety of diagnoses and experience with psychological assessment.

  • Child and Family – Minimum of 5 years’ direct experience working with children and families, ADHD, attachment issues, trauma and family systems issues.

  • Experience conducting child assessment, including interview, integrated report, feedback, and treatment recommendations.

  • Experience providing couples therapy

  • LPC licensure holding supervision certification or plans to pursue supervision certification

Rate: $60,000-90,000 dependent upon experience and qualifications


Education: Ph.D. or Psy.D. from an APA or CPA approved graduate program, LMSW, LPC
