Clinical Postdoctoral Fellowship in CBT at McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School
We are accepting applications for a postdoctoral fellowship position at McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School in the Behavioral Health Partial (BHP) Hospital Program for 2019-2020. This year long position is primarily clinically focused is for one year, with a start date of July 1, 2019 – start dates are negotiable.
The Behavioral Health Partial (BHP) Hospital Program is a large partial hospital program (>800 admissions per year) specializing in short-term, evidence-based CBT/DBT skills for severe psychiatric patient populations with mood and anxiety disorders, borderline personality disorder, thought disorders, and myriad comorbid conditions. This clinical program thoroughly integrates clinical service, training, and research. It is the primary training site for the McLean/Harvard APA-approved clinical psychology internship.
The fellowship entails three areas of responsibility:
Clinical: Providing short-term group and individual CBT/DBT skills to patients in the BHP program with a wide range of complex and often comorbid conditions. Extensive supervision and mentoring are core components of the postdoctoral training offered. The fellow will meet with Dr. Björgvinsson weekly for supervision. Two to three additional supervisors will also be assigned to meet with the fellow on a regular basis depending on their training needs and interests. The postdoctoral fellows will accrue enough clinical hours to apply for licensure at the conclusion of the training year.
Administrative: Assisting Dr. Björgvinsson in running the day to day operation of the psychology practicum program. Fellows are expected to be involved in organizing the program therapy case assignment system and to serve in a supervising/mentoring role for practicum students and interns. The clinical fellow leads weekly group supervision for pre-doctoral practicum students and organizes their weekly didactic seminars. In addition, the fellow will play an instrumental role in program development for the BHP and will learn administrative functions related to clinical training and patient care.
Research: Collaborate on the next phases of the program’s ongoing naturalistic treatment outcome study. Fellows are encouraged to utilize extensive existing data sets. Given the program’s transdiagnostic nature, the fellow has the opportunity to pursue research projects among a diverse range of topics. Previous fellows have developed research projects and published manuscripts in the areas of transdiagnostic cognitive and affective mechanisms, treatment development, and naturalistic treatment outcomes. The postdoctoral clinical fellow will also have opportunities to join ongoing research projects (access to current data set with over 5000 participants), grants, and submit research reports for publication.
Qualifications: Ph.D. in clinical/counseling psychology with strong scientist-practitioner or clinical scientist training, a solid background in CBT, interest in treatment outcome research and scholarly writing.
Salary: Excellent benefit package. The successful candidate will be proposed for academic appointment as a Clinical Fellow in Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School.
We anticipate interviewing candidates starting December 1, 2018, but will continue accepting applications until the position is filled.
