WORKING DAYS/HOURS: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (Occasional Evenings and Weekends)

SUMMARY OF POSITION: Under administrative direction of the court and in accordance with the American Psychological Association Specialty Guidelines for Forensic Psychologists and the State of New Mexico Board of Psychology Code of Conduct, the successful candidate will independently render forensic competency evaluations for pre-trial defendants as directed by order of the Court. The Psychologist in this position performs an array of tasks, including but not limited to: Selects, administers, and interprets psychological tests and other psychological training and assessments; Completes administrative paperwork; Reports results, findings or recommendations; Acts as an expert witness. Gives testimony and/or recommendations in court cases and/or hearings; supervises the Court Clinician (Psychology Associate). Findings, whether through initial screening or full competency evaluation will belong to the court and shall be distributed as determined by the court. This position will not engage in rendering opinions solely for the defense or prosecution. Competency evaluations are to be conducted and completed objectively and impartially on behalf of the Court. The Forensic Evaluations prepared by the successful candidate for this position shall comply with and be in accordance with the State of New Mexico’s Interagency Behavioral Health Service Requirements and Utilization Guidelines, including but not limited to CPT Code 99499, New Mexico State statutes, national professional standards and applicable court rules and law. Applicants with a PsyD from an accredited college or university are encouraged to apply.

EDUCATION: Education: A Ph.D. in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work or other mental health related field; 40 hours of specialized training in forensic psychology; 40 hours of mediation training, and 20 hours in advanced mediation training in the area of family/custody disputes. Education Substitution: None.

Licensure: Must possess and maintain current license to practice in the State of New Mexico as a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or licensed to practice in the State of New Mexico as a Psychologist.

Experience: Six (6) years’ experience working in a therapeutic setting, use of projective, objective, competency and other psychological tests and performing court ordered evaluations, of which three (3) years must have been experience in clinical supervision and administration. Experience Substitution: None.


WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The following functions are representative of the work environment and physical demands an employee may expect to encounter in performing tasks assigned to this job. Work is performed in an office, field or court setting. The employee may be required to work days, nights, weekends and holidays; overtime may be required. The employee must regularly interact positively with co-workers, clients and the public; work under severe time constraints and meet multiple demands from several people. The work requires prolonged use of computers, repetitious hand, arm and finger motions as well as manual/finger dexterity. The employee must be able to walk, talk, hear, kneel, stoop, lift, pull and carry up to 25 pounds. Travel (valid driver’s license required) may be periodically required for work, training, meetings and presentations. The employee may be required to sit or stand for long periods of time. The employee may be exposed to fluctuating outdoor and building temperatures; hostile or violent situations that may arise when dealing with individuals involved in court cases, disturbing or hazardous court exhibits and contagious health conditions.


Leave - Annual and sick leave are accrued by regular, full-time employees at the rate of 4.62 hours annual and 3.69 hours sick leave, per bi-weekly pay period. A total of ten paid holidays per calendar year.
