Clinical Assistant Professor Position in Health. The Health Program in the Department of Psychological, Health, and Learning Sciences (PHLS) at the University of Houston (UH) seeks a scholar and seasoned professional for a clinical faculty appointment at the academic rank of Assistant Professor. The Department has seen rapid growth in the undergraduate demand for the Health degree and is seeking full time faculty to support student learning and success in the program. Priority areas of experience for this position are in community health, health promotion, public health, health disparities and chronic disease (i.e., cancer, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, obesity, substance use/abuse, etc.) prevention and intervention with the ability to teach a range of courses within the program. This is an exciting time at UH given the university’s health initiative, UH’s new health science center, and our proximity to the Texas Medical Center. The department – and Health Program – is rapidly expanding to make a collective impact on addressing health and educational disparities in our local, state, national, and international communities. A successful candidate will embrace a strong commitment to excellence, student success, community engagement, academic integrity, diversity and social justice.

Qualifications: An applicant for this position must hold a doctoral degree in public health, health promotion, health psychology, or a closely related discipline. A successful candidate will demonstrate strong evidence of effective undergraduate teaching ability, commitment to student success, effective mentorship of graduate student teaching, and service to the profession. The candidate’s qualifications must be commensurate with appointment as a Clinical Assistant Professor.

Responsibilities: Responsibilities include rigorous teaching in the Health program with a 4-4 teaching load. More specifically, this includes teaching undergraduate courses in our (1) Public Health, (2) Health Promotion, (3) Health Promotion for Allied Health Professionals, and/or (4) 4+1 BS/MPH tracks. This could include face-to-face, online, or hybrid formats. A successful candidate will participate in course and program development, student advising, supervision of graduate student instructors and teaching assistants, community outreach activities, and service to the Department, College, University, and health profession.

Appointment: This is a nine-month appointment. Review of candidates will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. The anticipated start date is September 1, 2019. Salary will be commensurate with the applicant’s qualifications and experience and will include benefits. Please contact Dr. Rosenda Murillo (Email: rmurillo3@uh.edu Office Phone Number: 713-743-6315), Search Committee Chair, should you have any follow-up questions.
