Chairperson for the Department of Psychology

The University of Texas of the Permian Basin seeks a chairperson for the Department of Psychology beginning August 2019. The position is at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. The area of specialization is open.

Presently the Department of Psychology offers the MA in Psychology with clinical and experimental concentrations. The future goal is to collaborate with our colleagues in the Department of Kinesiology and offer a Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology with concentrations in sport, exercise, and performance psychology and social-cognitive psychology. Construction on the state-of-the-art D. Kirk Edwards Family Human Performance Center has begun and will include laboratory and office space for members the psychology department. In addition, a Center for Human Performance, Physiology, and Psychological Science has been established to enhance research and grant productivity.

The ideal candidate for the position should hold the Ph.D. and have interest in leading a department with the goals of teaching and research excellence and growth. This position requires teaching undergraduate courses as well as graduate courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. In addition to administrative and teaching duties, the chairperson will be expected to maintain an active scholarly agenda, and provide college and university service.

UT Permian Basin is located in the warm and sunny climate of West Texas. The Midland/Odessa area is ideal for those who enjoy hiking, geology, and the outdoors. Several Texas state parks are located within 200 miles of the university. The department presently has 6 full-time faculty, with over 400 undergraduate majors, and, as noted above is planning to expand the existing graduate program with the Center and the Ph.D. program.
