Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:
The Department of Psychology, located in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at Fayetteville State University, offers the Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a minor in Psychology. The Department also offers an on-line bachelor’s degree completion program. Additionally, the Department offers a 36-credit hour online graduate program leading to the Master of Arts degree in Psychology. The Department places significant emphasis on advisement and mentoring to prepare students who graduate for employment in the social and behavioral sciences and for graduate and professional studies.
Primary Purpose of the Position:
The Department Chair serves as the chief representative of the department, the leader in its internal affairs, and is the advocate for the departmental faculty to the university administration. The Chair is the administrative and instructional representative of the department. The duties of the Chair involve collaboration and interaction with faculty, staff, students, and other administrators.
This position will begin in the Fall 2019 semester.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Chair reports to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and he/she is a member of the CAS leadership team. The duties of the Chair are instructional and administrative. The specific duties and responsibilities of the Chair include but are not limited to:
1. Provide visionary leadership and strategic vision to advance the Department.
2. Recruit, supervise, mentor, and evaluate faculty.
3. Recruit students and promote the growth of both the undergraduate and graduate program.
4. Provide leadership in working with nontraditional students.
5. Manage department budget and resources.
6. Continue to develop a large, successful, and diverse faculty and staff and foster a collaborative and collegial work environment.
7. Guide curriculum development.
8. Identify and seek external funds to the department.
9. Promote the department within the university and to the wider community.
10. Provide leadership to complete the annual assessment of program and student learning outcomes.
Must have a doctoral degree in Psychology and a record of excellence in teaching, research, and service commensurate with the rank of a tenured Associate Professor or Professor.
Preference will be given to candidates who have experience with administrative academic leadership, the acquisition of extramural funding, the management of non-academic professional staff, experience in teaching and developing an online program, and working knowledge of computer software such as Banner, SharePoint, Digital Measures, and Excel
