To provide, oversee, and develop behavioral science training and oversight
for the family medicine residents, monitor and advise residents' well-being
activities, and provide, supervise and direct the mental health services located
at the residency and faculty practice.
The Licensed Mental Health Clinician also delivers quality individual, family and group counseling services to patients and their families to determine short-term or long-term treatment needs and meet the patients' social, emotional and psychological needs. Consistently performs in a manner that exemplifies MHHCC standards for customer relations and patient satisfaction.
Works closely with the Leadership Team and Directors of MHHCC Family Medicine Residency (FMR), Memorial Health Family Medicine, and Behavioral Health Services to maintain a liaison role to the hospital and community as a whole, promoting the services of Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in total and of behavioral health and counseling center services in particular. Provides educational services to individuals and/or groups within the hospital and/or community.

Education and Experience:Ideal candidate would have a doctorate degree in Psychology, Social Work, or other related human service fields with advanced licensure and certification such as HSPP certification or LCSW licensure. Experience working in a residency environment is a plus. At least one year experience in patient care, as well as previous management experience, preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:Must hold current license and certification in the state of Indiana and be in good standing with the Indiana Professional Licensing Board.
Language Skills:Ability to read, analyze and interpret common and technical journals, financial reports and other documents. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, community agencies or boards of directors.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability:Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
Computer Skills:Knowledge of Microsoft Word is required. Knowledge of Outlook, Excel, and Power Point is helpful. Must have the ability to learn and use the provided electronic health record system within a reasonable amount of time.

BEHAVIORAL SCIENCE CURRICULUM
- Develops, delivers, and is accountable for a Behavioral Science Curriculum that is consistent with the guidelines of the Residency Review Committee (RRC) for Family Medicine.
- Provides appropriate resident evaluation and feedback in development of the behavioral science curriculum.
- Serves as a resource to alumni, residents, faculty, and community physicians for behavioral science programming.
- Pursues professional development as a psychologist to maintain excellence in teaching psychological principles to family medicine residents, faculty, medical students, and other learners.
- Supervise and provide direction and support for resident activities related to their training in behavioral sciences and psychological services.
- Serves as clinical preceptor for residents in FMC for behavioral science/psychological services.
- Develops and delivers behavioral science topics at resident didactic sessions in accordance with RRC guidelines.
- Works collaboratively with the Family Medicine Center (FMC) team and contributes constructively to business and clinical meetings.
- Active member of the faculty for the FMR and participates in faculty meetings.
- Participates and provides guidance in residency candidate interviewing and selection.
- Participates and provides feedback regarding resident disciplinary action. Assists in developing education action plans as necessary.
- Participates and provides meaningful feedback on the Clinical Competency Committee (CCC) and Program Evaluation Committee (PEC).
- Accountability for resident and faculty wellness monitoring, including counseling and coordinating interventions with residents and faculty as needed.
- Organizes and oversees faculty development activities.
- Develops, oversees, and carries out communication curriculum for family medicine residents. Includes review of resident interactions with patients and constructive feedback that develops their communication skills.
- Assist in the training of Family Medicine physicians and medical students as requested.
- Represent MHHCC FMR in internal and external networking and community activities to maintain and grow patient referral base and promote Residency.
- Maintains knowledge of and professional relationships with other mental health care providers and their services.
- Provides high-quality mental health or psychological evaluation and treatment services to patients of the FMC and faculty practice.
- Maintains adequate and up-to-date records that are completed in a timely basis.
- Provides to or refers for psychological testing services to resident patients at the FMC.
- Participates in committee, community and professional group activities to further professional development as well as promote and develop activities of the FMC in collaborations with our community partners.
- Performs diagnostic intake evaluations, which may include the skilled use of a variety of culturally sensitive mental health assessment tools.
- Conducts individual, family and group counseling services which incorporate evidence-based treatment modalities.
- Develops, implements and conducts psychoeducational programming.
- As needed, performs crisis de-escalation and intervention services in collaboration with appropriate community resources.
- Demonstrates sound clinical judgment in diagnosis and treatment planning and the application of culturally sensitive treatment modalities to diverse patients.
- Monitors patient progress and updates/modifies treatment plan or refers patient as appropriate.
- Independently assesses and evaluates a wide variety of psychiatric conditions and DSM-V diagnoses commonly found in the patient population served.
- Adheres to and demonstrates ethically sound clinical decision making in accordance with established mental health ethics codes (e.g., APA, ACA, etc.) and practices within the boundaries of their competence.
- Ability to maintain therapeutic posture with patients who are in various stages of emotional stability; ability to maintain control in volatile or hostile situations.
- Collaborates with internal and external sources in providing clinical treatment.
- Completes thorough and concise documentation of patient encounters within 24 hours of appointment.
- Utilizes the Electronic Medical Record for documentation of patient encounters; enters charges accurately and timely.
- Maintains availability for patients with urgent needs and/or arranges for coverage by an alternate provider in the Family Medicine Residency.
- Committed to growth and development of professional skills through participation in continuing education.
Serve as clinical preceptor and manager for: (a) licensed clinical social worker, (b) case manager, and (c) other student interns for behavioral science/psychological services. Duties include:
- Training and direct supervision of applicable personnel.
- Completing performance evaluations, feedback, and disciplinary action.
- Responsibility and supervision of all clinical activities performed by licensed and non-licensed mental health providers. Supervision includes weekly one-on-one supervision as well as weekly group supervision meetings to review clinical activities and provide direction and feedback.
- Provides and/or organizes quarterly education for mental health professionals.
- Works as a productive member of an interdisciplinary team with a high degree of professionalism.
- Act as liaison with other departments within the MHHCC system.
- Attend staff meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.
Sample Weekly Schedule (subject to change as needs evolve):
- Direct clinical practice & supervision of social workers: 5 half days/week.
- Supervising resident patient encounters in the FMC: 2 half days/week.
- Curriculum development, including underserved population and drug-seeking education: 1 half day/week.
- Wellness programming for residents & faculty: 1 half day/week
- Direct resident interviews/Communication competency: 1 half day/week.
Minimum of physical effort. Very light work providing for intermittent
sitting, standing, and walking. Visual, auditory, and speech acuity essential.
Works in rooms which are well-lighted, heated, and ventilated; some exposure to
disagreeable conditions. May come in contact with hazardous health conditions;
however, if proper procedure is followed no harm should come to employee.
