Tenured Position in Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS). The Department of Psychological, Health, & Learning Sciences (PHLS) at the University of Houston (UH) seeks scholars for a tenured faculty appointment at the academic rank of Associate or Full Professor. Priority areas of study for this position are in lifespan development, adult development, social and emotional development, health disparities, and families and parenting. The department is seeking outstanding candidates with an externally funded research program, excellenceinteaching,andaclearcommitmenttoenhancingthediversityofthefacultyandstudentpopulation.
Qualifications: Applicants for this position must hold a doctoral degree in human development and family studies, developmental psychology, or a closely related discipline. A Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE) credential is preferred but not required. The successful candidate must demonstrate a record of innovative research published in high-impact peer-reviewed journals, a sustained record of significant external funding, evidence of effective teaching ability, commitment to student success, and service to the profession and ability to lead within the HDFS program. The candidate’s qualifications must be commensurate with appointment as an Associate or FullProfessor.
Responsibilities: Responsibilities include conducting innovative research and publishing in peer-reviewed journals; securing external funding to support an interdisciplinary program of research; rigorous teaching in predominately undergraduate courses; mentoring junior faculty; mentoring students; leadership within the HDFS program; chairing and serving on doctoral committees; community engagement; presenting research at professional meetings; and service to the Department, College, University, and profession. HDFS is an undergraduate program; however, candidates may jointly affiliate with one of three PHLS doctoral programs (Counseling Psychology, School Psychology, and Measurement, Quantitative Methods & Learning Sciences) to facilitate work with graduate students.
Appointment: This is a nine month appointment.
