Theat the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh announces a 10-month, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Developmental Psychology beginning fall 2019. The Psychology Department offers baccalaureate degrees in Psychology and the combined Master of Arts and Specialist degree (Certificate of Advanced Study) in School Psychology. Successful candidates should be committed to excellence in teaching, research, and service. The person should demonstrate an understanding of and sensitivity to diversity and gender issues. Responsibilities Include: Teaching a number of undergraduate psychology courses, including developmental psychology (lifespan and upper division child and adolescent courses), other courses associated with the candidate’s expertise, and possibly introductory psychology, research methods, statistics. Engaging in research, ideally involving undergraduate and graduate students in research endeavors. Participating in departmental and college service. Candidates may be asked to teach courses in a distance learning format.
Required Qualifications: Demonstrated skills and expertise in teaching and research, and the ability to work effectively and collegially with faculty, staff, and administrators. An earned doctorate in a psychology program is required for appointment as an Assistant Professor. ABDs will be considered for appointment at a lesser (qualified) rank and salary, upon proof that the applicant’s defense of his/her dissertation will be scheduled within the first year of the appointment. A successful ABD applicant will receive promotion to the rank of Assistant Professor and a salary increment at the start of the semester following verification of the terminal degree completion. An ABD hire will be limited to a one-year appointment, subject to renewal for one year only (2 years maximum).
Preferred Qualifications: An earned doctorate from a developmental psychology program as well as teaching experience in developmental psychology. Experience in the areas of personality and/or social psychology are also of interest.
