Eastern Illinois University
Department of Psychology
Assistant Professor of Psychology, Clinical Psychology
The Psychology Department at Eastern Illinois University (EIU) has an opening for a full-time (9-month) Assistant Professor, tenure-track faculty position beginning August 2020. Duties include teaching graduate courses in clinical psychology and undergraduate courses in psychology, maintaining an active research program, supervising graduate student theses and practicum/internship experiences, and participating in service to the department and university. Individuals should also demonstrate commitment to diversity and experience with promoting inclusive excellence.
The MA Program in Clinical Psychology is designed for students with career interests in master’s-level clinical practice or those who plan to obtain a doctorate. The foundation of the Clinical Psychology program is the scientist-practitioner model with training rooted in theoretical knowledge and ethical practice. The clinical training component provides students with instruction in empirically-based psychotherapies, assessment, and diagnosis, culminating in a practicum and a two-semester internship. The research focus of the program is designed to develop students’ critical thinking and quantitative skills, and includes coursework in research design and analysis, and a required thesis. The program typically enrolls 10-12 students each fall with a total of approximately 22 students across the two-year program. The department serves approximately 410 undergraduate and graduate students. The Department also houses a Psychological Services Clinic. Opportunities to direct the Clinic or the MA Program may become available in the future for those interested.
Candidates are expected to have a doctoral degree (Ph.D.) from an APA-accredited clinical psychology program (or closely related areas), although ABD candidates will be considered. Other requirements include demonstrated evidence of teaching excellence at the college/university level and a commitment to research and scholarly work.
