Save job

The DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY at EAST TENNESSEE STATE UNIVERSITY invites applications for a tenure-track ASSISTANT PROFESSOR position in CLINICAL CHILD psychology, beginning 8/15/19. ALL areas of clinical/counseling child psychology will be considered. Interest or experience in rural, primary care settings is a plus. Applicants must have completed an APA-accredited doctoral program in clinical or counseling psychology and an APA accredited psychology internship by 12/31/19, or be currently licensed as a doctoral-level psychologist. Eventual licensure is expected, as supervision of our clinical psychology students rotates among clinical faculty as part of their teaching load. Candidates from underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to apply.

The department expects all successful candidates to establish and maintain active research programs involving undergraduate and graduate students, and to pursue extramural funding. Exceptional collaborative research opportunities across a variety of psychological fields are provided by the James H. Quillen College of Medicine, which operates under the auspices of ETSU, and is consistently ranked nationally among rural colleges of medicine.

Throughout the hiring process, we look for evidence of candidates’ abilities to contribute to collegiality and good will within our thriving department. The Department of Psychology at ETSU houses an APA-accredited clinical PhD concentration with a special focus on rural mental health and primary care psychology and has been identified as an exemplary program in training students to practice in integrated settings. The department also houses an in-house training clinic and a complementary Ph.D. concentration in experimental psychology that focuses on translational research.

ETSU is surrounded by the beautiful Blue Ridge and Appalachian Mountains, and is located in Johnson City, Tennessee, which contributes to a metropolitan statistical area of 200,000 residents. The area enjoys a mild climate in both summer and winter, and boasts numerous waterways, parks, trails, and resorts for year-round recreational activities. The area has been ranked as a desirable place to live by several national publications.  In 2016, Johnson City was ranked by Kiplinger magazine as one of the “10 Least-Expensive Cities for Living in the USA,” and among the top five retirement destinations in the country.

Applicants must apply online using the ETSU eJOBS system, which includes uploading a cover letter and CV, and completing the online application form.

Please submit materials to:  http://jobs.etsu.edu/postings/11173

Cover letters should address candidates’ specific interests in ETSU, and clarify how candidates see themselves fitting into the research and training missions of the department. The ETSU eJOBS system will prompt candidates to enter the names and contact information of at least three recommenders, who will be electronically solicited to upload letters of recommendation directly into the eJOBS system. Candidates should also send digital copies of representative (p)reprints to Debra Roberson, Executive Aide, at Roberson@etsu.edu.

Review of applications will begin 9/30/18, and continue until the position is filled.

ETSU is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer. Positions are contingent on state funding.
