FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Lehman College Department of Anthropology invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professorship in Cultural Anthropology beginning Fall 2020. Candidates must have an active record of research/scholarship/creative works and a strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

We are seeking a scholar-educator whose scholarship encompasses the areas of migration and diaspora or race and ethnicity. We seek applicants with a commitment to and experience promoting and fostering equity and inclusion in pedagogy and scholarship, who can through their teaching, scholarship, and service connect anthropology to the lives of the very diverse Lehman student body and their broader communities.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach introductory undergraduate courses in cultural anthropology as well as intermediate and advanced courses in their research area; engage in research/scholarship and professional organizations; advise students; provide service to the department, college, university, and community, i.e. committee, administrative, supervisory, and other assignments normally associated with a full-time tenure-track academic appointment. Evening teaching may be required.

The Lehman College campus is located in Bronx, New York and is a senior college within The City University of New York (CUNY) system. Lehman is CUNY's only senior college in the Bronx and is recognized as a Hispanic Serving Institution. The college serves mainly undergraduate students preparing them for employment, the professions and further study. The teaching load is 18 hours per year and although the college is predominantly teaching focused, faculty at Lehman are active in research, scholarship and creative works. Service to the college, university and community is part of the mission as is a clear commitment to student engagement including advisement. Teaching is reduced for junior faculty over the first five years for scholarly development and all faculty are actively encouraged to seek external funding. Opportunities are available for faculty development and travel awards. Lehman College and CUNY internal funding is available through competitive grants for scholarship support.

QUALIFICATIONS
Ph.D. degree in cultural anthropology or related discipline awarded or successfully defended before September 30, 2019 is required. Applicants who have defended their dissertation but have not received their degree must include in their cover letter the date of their successful defense and the date when the PhD will be formally awarded. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

We seek colleagues who are sincerely committed to supporting students' learning and advancement and who maintain active involvement in professional organizations. The Lehman College Department of Anthropology seeks to build a faculty diverse in race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and disability, and encourages applications from underrepresented groups.
