Addiction and Biobehavioral Health Faculty Position (Open Rank, Tenure Track)

Addiction and Biobehavioral Health Faculty Position (Open Rank, Tenure Track)

The Department of Biobehavioral Health (BBH) in the College of Health and Human Development (https://hhd.psu.edu/bbh) announces an open-rank tenure line faculty position in addiction research to start August 2020. Candidate's research should apply cognitive neuroscience techniques (e.g., neuroimaging) and integrate behavioral and biological approaches to examine substance abuse. BBH has a strong interdisciplinary research program that examines how environmental factors (e.g., early life trauma, stress, impoverished social and physical environments, etc.) interact with biological factors (e.g., genetics, brain development, etc.) to impact health; candidates that contribute to these strengths will be of particular interest. Candidates should demonstrate an established interdisciplinary research program, and a successful history of external funding, that integrates behavioral and biological approaches to examine the multifactorial contributions to the development and/or maintenance of substance abuse.

This position is part of a series of strategic hires at Penn State to build scientific leadership and increase Penn State's capacity for high impact, interdisciplinary, translational, and community-engaged collaborations to combat substance abuse and addiction. BBH seeks a faculty member who is interested in and committed to participating in an interdisciplinary community of scholars at Penn State contributing to the mission of the new Consortium to Combat Substance Abuse (CCSA; https://opioid.psu.edu). This consortium builds on existing interdisciplinary strengths within BBH, which considers both biological and behavioral underpinnings of addiction. Additional consortium hires will occur over the next several years.

Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. The expected start date is August 2020. Questions about this position may be directed to the search committee chair, Dr. Orfeu Buxton at bbhsearch2019@psu.edu. To apply, applicants must complete an online application (https://psu.jobs) including a cover letter describing research and teaching interests and experiences, curriculum vitae, and 3 reprints or preprints that convey research interests and expertise. A doctorate in neuroscience, behavioral science, psychology, biology, sociology, public health, genetics, biostatistics or a related field is required. Four professional letters of reference should be sent directly from the letter writers to Dr. Orfeu Buxton at mailto:bbhsearch2019@psu.edu, or by postal mail to: Dr. Orfeu Buxton, The Pennsylvania State University, Department of Biobehavioral Health, 221 Biobehavioral Health Building, University Park, PA 16802. Please indicate "BBH/CCSA search" in the subject line of email correspondence.
